“Marital Underdog” is a new idiom which is generated from Japanese society.

It means that an over 30-year-old woman is successful at work but single.

There are more and more such kinds of woman in the Japanese and Taiwanese society.

In the western countries, a single, successful woman is not considered a loser.

But in the eastern countries, the society hasn’t completely accepted single women who are successful in their work but single.

Generally spacking, a woman should be married when she is over 30 years old.



A woman who is widely regarded as a marital underdog has some main characteristics.

Firstly, she is on high income and concentrates all her seeorts on work. She spends less time socializing with friends.

Secondly, she prefers to meet a man unexpectedly and then fall in love with him.

She never accepts an arranged marriage.

Thirdly, she can dress well but her life style is almost likes old people, such as watching TV all night and waking up very early without an alarm over the weekend.

Finally, she is innocent but envy younger pretty girls because she is not as young as them.

That will make her lose confidence in herself.

Actually, a marital underdog has a strong desire to get married.

However her wish to get married doesn’t come true because she don’t meet the right man.


In my opinion, being married should not be regarded as an indicator of being a winner.

If you are lucky to meet the right man and then you get married, marriage should be treasured by you.

You both parties should stay true to your commitment and faithful.

If you cannot encounter a proper man, you can spend your time staying with your interests, your family, friends as well as work.

Without a marriage you still can have a happy life.
